Meet Our Team

Christian Ulvert is the founder and president of EDGE Communications, LLC, a Florida-based communications and political consulting firm. An expert in political messaging and public policy, Ulvert has served on and managed several successful campaigns across the state of Florida, from municipal and legislative races, to issue advocacy and statewide campaigns.

Prior to his launch as a political and media consultant, Christian served the Florida House of Representatives Democratic Caucus as a senior communications director and policy advisor to House Democratic Leader Dan Gelber during his two-year leadership term. His knowledge of strategic communications, public opinion and message development allowed elected officials to effectively deliver their message to statewide media outlets and drive public opinion. His strong verbal communications skills have allowed Ulvert to serve as bilingual spokesman of every campaign he has joined.

Christian’s diverse professional background ranges from crisis communications, legislative communications, grass-tops management and outreach, Hispanic public affairs, media buying, campaign management and strategic communications. His long-standing relationships with members of the Florida Legislature, their staffs, and other elected officials, enables Ulvert to provide quick and efficient services for his firm’s clients. He is described by top Florida Democrats as, “hardworking, loyal and innovative,” “a very effective advocate,” and “extremely ethical…a rare political professional who knows how to get things done in Florida.” In 2017, Christian was named by the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) as one of the country’s top political consultants under 40, recognizing him as a “young achiever and visionary”. This year, in addition to a number of key races where he serves as the lead strategist, Christian is proud to serve as Mayor Philip Levine’s Senior Advisor and Chief Strategist for his Gubernatorial campaign.

Born in Miami with family roots in Nicaragua, Christian is a proud alumni of Florida State University with an undergraduate degree in political science and a graduate degree in Public Administration and Policy. Today, Christian lives with his husband, Carlos, in Miami Shores.

Kalynn “Kay” Cook is the Vice President of EDGE Communications, LLC. Combining a Boston education, a D.C. work ethic, and the Miami spirit, Kay is a forward-thinking professional who seamlessly blends political experience with a commitment to organization and efficiency.

Since joining the firm in 2015, she has personally mentored 22 candidates, trained and supervised 70+ staff members and overseen over 200 volunteers. Her areas of expertise are comprehensive in both breadth and depth, they include field, fundraising, community outreach, issue advocacy, communications, campaign budgeting, talent recruitment and training, as well as event planning. From the campaign’s announcement to Election Day, she provides what President Christian Ulvert refers to as “general campaign awesomeness.” He praises her as “one of the strongest hires we’ve ever made, with a relentless drive and energy in serving our clients.” In the past, she’s been commended by labor leaders and elected officials alike for her exceptional campaign management and outstanding attention to detail.

After college, Kalynn cut her teeth with Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign, developing a passion for outreach and community organizing. After working tirelessly in downtown Miami to reelect the president, Kay joined Planned Parenthood in helping launch his administration’s signature achievement—the Affordable Care Act. While enrolling individuals in ACA, she led the national performance report for most insurance applications, assisting over 1,000 individuals. She maximized phone, email, and community outreach for the non-profit; increasing engagement by 25% and doubling PP’s volunteer capacity in the Miami and Broward areas. Nowadays, she handles a broad portfolio for EDGE, with a special affinity for campaigns that seek a more effective message and a more defined organizational structure.

When she’s not working hard to support progressive leadership, Kay enjoys redecorating her Edgewater apartment and discovering local eateries with her husband Ezra.

Born and raised in Miami Beach, Jonathan is passionate about public service and politics. Since graduating from college, Jonathan has made an early mark on his career by serving as deputy campaign manager for Mayor Dan Gelber’s 2017 campaign, political coordinator for Phillip Levine for Governor, and closing the 2018 election cycle part of Andrew Gillum for Governor’s finance team. In 2019, Jonathan joined the fast-growing and dynamic firm of EDGE Communications as Director of Campaigns, where he works with a number of clients, including serving as campaign manager for Mayor Dan Gelber’s 2019 re-election campaign. Growing up on the water, Jonathan loves spending time outdoors and has a passion for golf. Jonathan’s love for Miami-Dade and commitment to bettering the community has allowed him to make a difference in South Florida.

Carolina recently moved back to her hometown of Miami from Arlington, Texas where she lived for the past 17 years. A professional hair stylist by trade, her interest in politics was sparked with the trips to the State Capitol in Austin that she took to lobby the Texas legislature against proposed bathroom bills. This interest turned into a passion for social justice as she began she organizing her friends from church, advocating for the clergy community to take a stand against the harmful legislation that targeted the LGBTQ community.

These experiences inspired Carolina to dedicated herself to learning how political campaigns operate. She received her AA degree from a local community college in Texas before transferring to Florida International University (FIU) to study political science. At FIU, Carolina received several scholarships that have assisted her in gaining real-life experience in the political field; she graduated with honors in May 2017.

In the past, she has interned with SAVE, Miami’s longest-serving LGBTQ advocacy organization, which helped elect Annette Taddeo, the first Latina women to serve in the Florida Senate. Carolina began her journey with EDGE as an intern, assisting the team with the daily communications and operations in a fast-paced environment. She’s excited to work full-time to elect progressive candidates up and down the ballot in South Florida. In her free time, Carolina enjoys spending time with her wife, Michala, and their dog, Charlie.

A native of Nicaragua, Maria Kuhn joined EDGE Communications as its second employee, handling the logistical and administrative tangle of running a business. Maria’s commitment to deliver exceptional service and individualized attention to each client makes our team unique. Maria lives up to the company’s trademark name of delivering an edge to each candidate and campaign that works with our team. Maria is a loving wife and devoted mother of two incredible daughters.
